The practice of chiropractic is very logical and makes a lot of sense. Every organ and muscle from our heart, or stomach, our lungs and all of the muscles of the body are regulated by the brain through the elaborate nervous system in our bodies.

The nervous system begins at the base of our brain, travels down the spinal column and then branches out strategically to the various organs and muscles. When the nerve impulses are flowing freely from the brain to the rest of our body, we are in pretty good shape, but when the nerve flow is impeded, then we can begin to experience minor problems with the functioning of our bodies, and we can get into a state of dis-ease.

What causes these disturbances and lack of nerve flow? Just living can sometimes be a rough and tumble experience. Have you ever gotten out of bed in the morning, and perhaps you slept all night in a different kind of position where your back this particular morning just doesn’t feel right?

Or perhaps you are outside working in the garden and when you are finished, your shoulders don’t feel quite like they normally would. What happens is that as we go about our daily business, we walk, bend, sit down, get up, bend over and find that in order to get around we sometimes have to bend and twist into all kinds of different postures.

When our bodies twist and bend like this, some of the nerves can become impinged, or “caught” in between some muscles, or brush against a pulled muscle. Muscles expand and contract as the are used and misused, causing nerves that are usually shielded within the muscles to have strain put upon them.

Most people just think that chiropractors fix your back when you pull it out by lifting something that you are not supposed to. Of course that is one of the things that chiropractors do quite will, but it is not the only thing.

When nerves get out of whack by a misalignment of muscles, or the spinal column itself, it is labeled a subluxation. Over time, this loss of healthy nerve flow will tend to diminish the function of the muscle or organ of the body that the nerve is flowing to from the brain.

This is one of the main reasons that the function of an organ decreases in efficiency and when the chiropractor “fixes” the situation with an adjustment, he or she is simply “adjusting” the position of the area around where the nerve is impinged.

Chiropractic is much less of the bone crunching and popping that people have the mental image of, and more of a gentle massage and pressure on the major points of misalignment. Once treatment is applied to specific areas, relief is immediate.

Chiropractic is mainly a preventative, ongoing method of treatment to prevent serious subluxations from hindering the peak performance of our bodies. It is simply a method of continually tuning up our bodies so that they will perform at their best under all circumstances.
